Steve Jobs wanted the voice of Apple to be who?

Fun fact. If late Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs had it his way, the voice of Apple would have been actor Jeff Goldblum.

Earlier this week, the Hollywood A-lister revealed in an interview with the Today Show in Australia that Jobs had reached out some decades before. It wasn’t clear if Jobs wanted Goldblum to be the spokesman for the company or the voice of Siri. Still, Goldblum recalled his experience.

“Steve Jobs called me up a few decades ago to be the voice of Apple,” Goldblum said, according to CNET. He didn’t specify why the partnership never materialized but hinted at how Apple hadn’t become the tech giant that we know it as today.

“That was early on. I did not know it was Steve Jobs,” he said.

Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant, is voiced by voiceover actress Susan Bennett. And ironically, Jobs would become the voice and face for Apple. Memorable ads like the “Think Different” campaign featured Jobs front and center.

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes, the ones who see things differently.” Jobs famously said in the 1997 commercial.

Over the years, Jobs became synonymous with Apple. He had a hand in every major Apple presentation and product announcement until his death in 2011. Apple’s new CEO, Tim Cook, recently had an exclusive interview about Apple among other related topics.

And although Goldblum didn’t land either gig with Apple, it doesn’t sound like he’s lost much sleep over it. After all, the movie icon is still a recognizable face around Hollywood. Not to mention, Goldblum’s fans will fondly remember his roles in 90’s blockbusters such as Jurassic Park and Independence Day.
